The Whitecaps qualified for the 2015-16 CONCACAF Champions League for the first time in October 2014, after becoming the highest-ranked Canadian team in the 2014 MLS season and after the Canadian Championship was reformed the following season. They qualified for the MLS playoffs for the second time a week later, an accomplishment unequaled by any Canadian team. The logo of the team has an unusual shape, with three rhombi, one of which overlaps the other two. Across the geometric figures is the complete team name. The typeface is traditional sans-serif. The term "Whitecaps" appears beneath "Vancouver" as it did on the original emblem from the 1970s.
