How to Measure a Sweater

    Tips for Taking Sweater Measurements
  • Take all the measurements by laying your sweater on a flat surface like a board.
  • Don’t stretch any part of the sweater while taking measurements.
  • Smooth out the sweater as it should be free from wrinkles.
  • Measure each part twice to make sure accurate measurement.
  • Take the measurement to the closest 1/4 inch. Specific measurements are not necessary, but keep in mind that lying flat measures are generally doubled (e.g., a 12.5" chest is actually a 25" chest), so even an ¼ inch discrepancy can be significant.

Sweater Measurement Guide

Chest – Measure your chest with a measuring tape from one side of the sweater to the other one inch below the armhole.

Body Length – Place the measuring tape at the center of the sweater and measure from the back collar seam down to the edge of the hem.

Sleeve Length - Measure it from the shoulder seam to the tip of the cuff hem.


Chest: Measured across the chest one inch below armhole when laid flat.

Body Length: Measured from high point shoulder to finished hem at back.

Sleeve From Shoulder: Measured from high point of shoulder to finished hem at sleeve.
