The Sam Houston State Bearkats are Sam Houston State University's intercollegiate athletic teams. Overall, the Sam Houston athletic department won the Southland Conference Commissioner's Cup for the all-around athletic department in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2013, 2014, 2018, and 2019 and topped the Southland Conference for all-academic recognition. The Kats are the only Southland Conference athletic department to win the Commissioner's Cup three years in a row, and their seven total cups are the most in league history. The large letters "S" and "H" positioned diagonally took up the majority of the surface of the logo. A stylized cat's paw was in the foreground. Orange was the dominant color in the logo. They chose an angular font with a strong straight style. "The measure of a Life is its Service," says the team's slogan.
